Siji

siji, adesiji, soul, nigerian, yoruba

Yesterday afternoon, I received email saying that I had been tagged in a video on Facebook. Anyone familiar with facebook knows that more often than not, you’re not actually in the video, but rather someone wants to spam you wants you to see something.

I was pleasantly surprised to see an awesome video about a yet unknown to me musician, Siji. The video promos Siji’s sophomore album project “Adesiji” that features a sharp cast of musicians and co producers including Rich Medina and King Britt.

The wonderfully chill soul sounds are a refreshing complement to his ideas on music, production and the like. Look forward to more from Siji. New album drops September 2008.

His official website launches soon: http://www.sijimusic.com

In the meantime, check him out on myspace:

Siji’s debut album is available for purchase here on itunes

Update: Higher quality video courtesy of Siji

I love it when an artist is able to infuse Himself(Birth, Culture, Upbringing, Life) and make music of it, it shows talent and a gift. Your music is fire like your bobo talk “like fish grease”!! When your album is released I will buy copies and give out to people. PLEASE, PLEASE try and get your album released in Nigeria, TRY , there is no way it won’t blow.

Nice try, too early to tell where this is gonna go. Lots of new blood in Nigerian music nowadays but it’s not just enough to sing in Yoruba, there is a need to respect the culture and show that respect in your music. And we shouldn’t rush to celebrate people until we see some productivity. Stay away from the hype. Keep flowing Siji!

    Siji,
You’ve been doing this music thing since our first year at university back in London many years ago. Its good to see that you have kept true to yourself by just doing wondeful music and not following the latest music fashion. This has taken time but you consistence and staying true to yourself will start to pay off now. By the way I made you godfather to my daughther who was baptised on the 28th of June 2008. Are you okay with it? It a bit late now because your name appears on her baptism certificate. Keep on keeping it real.

    Nice article. Thanks. :) Eugene

Adeyera - So tell us, is Siji’s latest offering just “hype”, or are you appreciative of the flow, effort, respect for culture and Music? Would be intersting to hear your thoughts now that we’ve heard Siji’s “productivity”.
