  17. Olatunji Mason Says:

What’s up this is Olatunji Mason better known as the African Premo on the beats. I invite you to check me out at http://www.myspace.com/mistatunji and hear the lastest collaborations I’ve done with African mc’s.

I’m a Sierra Leonian dude with some Nigerian roots, and I alot of the music I make complements that.

Artist I’m currently working with right are Zimbabwe Legit from Zimbabwe and Booba Siddik of the Ivoryian, Senegalese hip hop group Shadow, and Kao Denero and his cousin Supa Laj ( two Sierra Leonian mc’s)

As far as the equipment I use I’m using an MPC 2000xl to make all my beats. My MPC 2000xl is attached to my BR1180 digital recorder/mixer. That’s what I use to sample CD’’s into the MPC 2000xl and chop it up in there!

My style is mixing African music with hip hop beats! That’s my signature sound. It came up with that style diggin in through the crates of my parents collection. My fathers into lots of Igbo highlife music, so we had a classical collection of those CD’s and Vinyl’s from the 70’s.

I remember making first real African hip hop beat back in the Winter of 2004. At the time, I had one of my old turntables attached to my MPC 2000xl. I sampled an old record from Freetown, SL. It must have been from the late 70’s or the early 80’s. I did lots of EQing, and filtering, and I added some breakbeat purcussion, and it came out hot!

From that point on, I kept making more beats like that!!

    Hollar back!!!

  18. Renny A Says:
