Kennis Music & 2Face Don Mess Up Big Time!
It’s a little over a week until the release of the movie Phat Girlz that features 2Face Idibia’s hit song, African Queen. The trailers have hit the airwaves and for the first time the international community is hearing African Queen. At very least you’d expect Nigeria’s top selling musician and winner of MTVs African Musician of the Year to have his website up and running… or at very least to have his production company have some kind of online presence and contact information, but instead, what do we find?
1. The once flaky official 2face site is now down entirely. It looks like they never bothered to renew the domain name registration & now it’s been taken over by another mindless parked domain pedling ads for your clicks.

2. The Kennis Music’s web presence on the other hand has no content. There is a little animation, but no usable content - not a contact email, not an address or even a phone number:

These guys have messed up big time - this is a major opportunity that’s being absolutely squandered. I have people emailing me from all around the world asking for more information, where to buy the album and so on:
Would anyone know the contact for the music producers for “You are my Afircan Queen” by 2face. It is my opinion that they are not doing a good job promoting this song especially with the release of the movie “Phat Girlz. They should be capitalizing on it. - H (Canada)
It’s interesting that this is the situation despite the constant rhetoric about breaking into the international arena. Sure on one hand they’ve done that by arranging film deal, but are falling flat on their faces by missing out on the timing of Phat Girlz.
These are some of the problems:
1. No Proper (any?) international distribution - instead we have numerous online mom & pops selling cd-r & pirate copies.
2. Limited representation on international radio stations despite the overwhelming interest. The man is MTVs African Musician of the Year for goodness sakes?!
3. No contact information - who handles their Public Relations?!
4. No online presence, but even worse having expired websites!
It’s not like we’re talking rocket science here. We’re not discussing things that take significant amounts of money either - we’re talking the basics… the VERY basics - and in that, they’ve failed.
The onus is on Kennis Music to do a better job than this. If they not doing it for the sake of the artist(s), at least do it for their own pockets. This behavior will only lead to continued missed opportunities.

Will, thanks for the info. I agree, myspace is quite popular with a certain crowd. It’s a nice thing to have, but it’s certainly no replacement for a personal website. Furthermore, you cannot afford to “abandon” your official site without notice! That address has been the primary point of contact for many people, including the media for years. If you do decide you no longer want to run an official site, at least provide a pointer from the official site to the myspace site, otherwise you leave everyone out in the cold.
I think everyone’s aware that in this day and age, you cannot afford to not have a website, and along the same line, you cannot afford to let your website lapse. The fact that it has been dropped and taken over points to incompetence rather than a concerted plan to conduct activities from myspace.

It’s shameful indeed…pathetic actually. Myspace is not an excuse; every tom, dick and ekaete has one…a (well-designed) website is one that sets you apart from the rest; gives u the earnestly needed recognition every talented artiste deserves.
I hope (for 2face’s sake & theirs) Kennis Music take on the challenge and build up good websites.
It’s just pathetic.

what i think? if you’re a signed, successful artist there are a few things you just cant do. one of them is definitely not having a web presence, or not having some reasonable public relations. its really a shame that the biggest name presently in the Nigerian entertainment industry has no web presence.
still can’t believe it! i’ll get him one for free, just to take away the shame!!!

Thanx for this opportunity….. web-link is very important because art, especially music is universal. There are lots of people all around the world with special interest in what comes out of Naija. They need a place to reach in and find from the artists themselves.

According to what i have read here ,is a talented artist 2face who just abandoned his (first website or personal website] that can display his talent across the world on the web, for myspace that a 5 yr old can have and display anything, i just found that even in search engines it appears that the african king has no personal website and you can not find his songs anywhere, 2face and his myspace has no information about the artist and his bio, we are not condeming the way he sings his talented and a good artist, a big inspiration to upcoming african artist, the internet is a good place to get known even much better, i have been searching for african queen i cant find it, at last i find my self in this forum, were i can express my self on the artist and the internet. if you do check this plz do something

I was at the movies a couple of weeks ago to see the phat girls, it was really cool…..a cool breath of air for d country…….my American friends danced to the music…..I was proud……….d problem is 2faze doesnt know what he has, d right buttons to push……….he is still looking up to kennis music who probably has no freaking idea of what can come out of the opportunity…One thing is its kinda rare for Americans to listen to other artistes from a diff country……….the artiste has to be really good cos one….when africans sing……Americans dont understand and two, there is so much competition going on here alone………….He has to be really smart about it………..but I wish him good luck anyways………..

Be assured that Tuface will eventually get his stuff together. Remember that what he and Kennis Music have accomplished has been done with even less than what he has now.
Stop acting like the americans, being crabs in a barrel. It is very unbecoming to Africans. Put your ego in check, and support your Nigerian brother. Otherwise ascendancy of African music will be over before it begins.

We’re all aware that Nigerian musicians aren’t getting their fair due and that’s in large part to a failing on the marketing end … very simple things to increase awareness are not being done, simple things like maintaining a web presence …

Bobo, I have to admit the marketing leaves much to be desired.
I guess what I tried to say (very clumsily, I might add) is that KM and Tuface have done a very good job with what they’ve had to work with so far. It was distressing to see all the criticisms directed at them when they’ve made great strides with limited resources. I know there are millions of artists with First Class Websites who would love to be in Tuface’s position right now.
I hope he invests some of his success in taking his career to the next level.

Its quite pity that we nigerians continue to pass up opportunities to expand our horizons and show the world the better side of us.
Truth of the matter is that Kennis music is just an opportunist who was fortunate to be there at the right time but they are making the same mistake that affects all black businesses ,which is that they think once they are on top ,they’ll stay there forever and thats a BIG LIE. The success of 2face and his Kennis music ally may have been over celebreted. The Homeboy should flow back like a boat upon the Nile and come up with some poppin sound tracks. There has been so much concentration on the awards won by him so far , unending international shows might put him out of focus to work on some new doppest album. First solo album face2face should have been shelved and his producer then move over to something new in town.

Well i am not surprised at all this,its pity that these are some of the reasons we never make it too far.Neglecting simple but basic things.Kennis music as a whole need to grow up and stop leaving with their glory of being the best in Naija.They should be trying to meet the standards of the western world.Music companies with no talents at all here in the United Kingdom do alot better on publicity so i see no reason why with a talent like 2face and the funds they have they cant just decide at last to use their brains and do something decent.Even a 13 years old child can run a website and keep it running for ages.

I love all naija artist because they are doing something to put nigeria on the map and you cant really knock anyones hustle. One artist I have mad respect for is RUGGEDMAN. Nigerian Entertainment interviewed him and its clear he is using his status to progress in other avenues which is what a true business man does regardless of if you are an artist or not. Look at people like JayZ, P-diddy, no one can tell me they made all their cash from music , they used music/celeb status to open other doors which is the way it should be etc. .You can read the interview here http://www.nigerianentertainment.com I think other Naija artists should follow his footsteps and be smart in this game. You have to spend money to make money and not using your status to its maximum is just lame. I think Nigeria does not have Records Label yet, what we have are just companies that releases music into the market.
I mean how can a company like Kennis Music that claim to be international company not having a website, and also can not create a website for all their artists. It’s very ridiculuos.

Hey this is my first time on ur site and i most say i am more than impressed by what i see,i love the way Nigerians in the diaspora like u are keeping our flags high,keep it up bro.As regards to Tuface and the site issue, i think Nigerians are very greedy people and it has shown it s self here.What a big label like Kennis Music need do is to asign the job of updating and maitaining their site to a company so that they can spend or rather concentrate on the job of promoting and distrubuting music.Its most regretable that a the peak Tuface’s career he could not take the advantage of the internet were he could have had internet chats with Fans all around the world, started a Fan club(i dont if he has one already)he would have made so much money from download of African fromthe internet..men the list goes on and on.

I am really disappointed about the problem with Kenny Ogungbe and 2face capitalising on their successes. I have the pleasure of introducing 2face’s African Queen’ at my wedding ceremony just some days ago here in France and everyone there accepted it immediately.
