Great to see something new posted here. Unfortunately, I missed both Femi’s gigs in Montréal and Toronto … though I was travelling the East of Canada just then. Hope he will come to Europe soon!

Saw Femi and Positive Force this past Saturday (07142007) in Atlanta GA at the Variety Playhouse. He came with a 5 piece horn section (2trumpets, trombone, sax, bass clarinet), bass guitar and rhythm guitar, drummer, percussionist, keyboardist and 3 dancers (who are the hardest working girls in the business) and the man himself. I’ve seen Femi three times all in Atlanta at different locations and each time is a mind boogling experience. A Femi show is always worth the price of admission and then some!

After watching the clip for Femi Kuti I would love to go and see them. They have such a distinct sound and would go down a storm in the UK…Hopefully then will arrive on our shores one day! Gary from African Musical Instruments

Saw Femi last night (7/16/07) at Stubb’s in Austin, Texas. Beautiful south Texas evening at the outside stage. Show started at 9:45pm with percussion coming on stage 1st getting the crowd pumped with some serious drum beats. Next were the guitars and keyboardist who strutted onto the stage filling in the sound a little more. The horn section followed, doing a little choreographed march back and forth across stage and really bringing the full force of the afro-beat sound to fruition. Next were the 3 lovely backup singers dressed in “tribal” wear and gyrating to the rhythms of the band. Finally Femi took the stage and from there on out it was a nonstop,
afro-beat dance party. Great show. Femi is such a dynamic presence on stage alternating between rousing rebel calls for justice in Africa to party shout outs and thank you’s to the audience. If he is anywhere near you go check him out, you will not be dissapointed.

I’ve been anticipating his return to the states for ages. Just my luck, Florida happens to be the road less travelled here. If anyone(out there) is in tune with his producers(or folks that handle scheduling), i will appreciate a word or two about slipping Orlando into his itinerary.
Thanks,
