Vocal Slender

I came across this clip from the BBC program Welcome To Lagos that introduces us to Vocal Slender—an aspiring musician who collects scrap at the Olusosun dump to make ends meet.

His debut album, Vocal Slender - Send Them Come is available on Itunes.

Eedris Appologizes to 50 Cent, Kora Awards 2007

After performing at the Kora Awards 2007, Eedris Abdulkareem apologizes to 50 Cent for their previous encounter.

I can’t say I ever expected to see these two on stage together again. 50 was probably just as surprised by the apology as I was watching it. Needless to say, I’m glad we can finally close the book on this one.

If you’re not up to speed on the issue, here is Eedris’ side of the story:

ChiiDo - Gbejo

I came across this video from Chiido called Gbejo by chance and it reminded me of why I like ChiiDo… he doesn’t take himself too seriously and his songs make me laugh. This track has some fresh pidgin rhymes in “part 2″ and lots of reasons to make you smile. Enjoy.

Wanlov - Smallest Time

I know say this na naijajams and no be ghanajams, but I wanted to share a discovery that made my day. The artist is Wanlov. The song, “Smallest Time,” from his album Green Card (that incidentally just released today) is a savory mix of afrobeat-infused easy breezy california hiphop stylings with a mixture of pidgin and poetry. “My people, I dey greet you.”

If you’re feeling this song, be sure to pick up the album - you can order online, pay with paypal.

If you’re in the US, check out Wanlov live at his release parties in LA and NYC this week before he relocates to Ghana:

October 5:at KAOS Network, Los Angeles, CA

October 6:at the Shrine, New York City, NY

The Hottest Coalition of Nigerian DJs

If you’ve been around naijajams for some time, you’ve definitely heard of DJ Dee Money. He’s become famous online for the prolific Naija Gbedu mixtapes releases (that are so numerous I’ve lost count!) Based in the Chicago area (USA), his sounds graced the airwaves, rocked parties and even won DJ of the Year award at the Nigerian Entertainment Awards (NEA) 2006!

In a continued effort to promote Nigerian artists worldwide, and a growing desire to bring like-minded individuals together, Dee Money created the internet-based community called, “Nigerian DJs.” This is the place (as you might expect) to find top class Nigerian DJs. Check them out to hear some of the newest sounds from naija, or to find a dj to play at your next party.

Dj Henry - Serious Gbedu Jams

Inspired by the other mixtapes on the site, Dj Henry put together a special naijajams mixtape - all the way from the Netherlands! Super Gbedu Jams is a solid set of popular tunes for the Naija hip-hop, pop and r&b set. The mix is topped off with a little “Yellow Fever” from Fela for good measure, and strangely enough, it works brilliantly.

Dj Henry, (also known as Dj Dynamite) brings the accumulated experience of over 12 years behind the decks and an international repertoire to match. Originally based in Warri, Delta State, Henry moved to Johannesburg South Africa for work where he held nightclub residencies at the popular Piccadilly Café and Rockafellaz. For the past six years, Henry’s been based in Holland and is still a regular at clubs and private parties.

So, if you’re in Holland, and need a correct Naija Dj for your event, Dj Henry is your man.

Stay tuned for more from Dj Henry, and in his words, “Keep Naija music alive!”
